I trained as a doctor and spent years caring for women with symptoms that were often misunderstood or dismissed. When I received more in-depth education on menopause I finally understood what was being overlooked—and why it mattered so much.
The reality is, Western medicine does not always provide doctors with the comprehensive education they need on ovarian neuro-endocrine hormones during their training — despite 51% of the population being born with ovaries. This led me down a path of discovery into the world of ovarian science. But through that discovery, I also experienced grief as I recalled those women I could have helped had I received this vital training.
I believe every woman deserves this knowledge, and I have dedicated my career to empowering women to take charge of their menopause transition in order to thrive throughout this transitional

Hello, I’m Dr. Aoife O’Sullivan and I’m here to help you
embrace this new chapter and feel incredible doing it.
By training, I am a family physician, board certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and a menopause specialist, certified by the North American Menopause Society, dedicated to empowering women through their midlife health journeys. Originally trained in Ireland, I completed medical school and a family medicine residency there before moving to the United States in 2004, where I completed a second residency at the University of Maryland.
Beyond menopause care, I have a diverse clinical background spanning general medicine, HIV care, gender-affirming care, urgent care, and emergency medicine, to bringing extensive experience in outpatient care to each of my patients.
As the founder of Portland Menopause Doc, I offer menopause-focused telemedicine for personalized care rooted in preventative health, informed consent, and shared decision-making for patients in Oregon and Washington.
As an educator, speaker, podcast host, frequent podcast guest and active contributor to midlife women’s health research, I am committed to advancing physician understanding of menopause and women’s sexual health. I lecture to the residencies, medical practices, medical associations and local businesses here in Oregon and Washington.
In 2024, I co-founded The Portland Menopause Collective along with three other women physicians dedicated to the education of other physicians and women in the community on women’s midlife care. And in 2025, along with two fellow clinicians I created The Dusty Muffins, a women’s health podcast giving women the knowledge they need to empower themselves for the second half of their lives.
I am lucky to be enjoying my own midlife in Portland, Oregon, together with my sweet family. I get to spend my free time skiing, playing tennis and pickleball, reading, going for long walks, cherishing family movie nights, traveling for work and for fun, and helping women who inspire me.
